![]() ![]() The longest interval we went on one piece of equipment was 31 months on the 5.9L Cummins in a Hagie sprayer we used to have. I don't feel as oil 'knows' how old it is so I don't worry much about changing oil annually. The tractor isn't that old but we use it daily on our feed wagon so it has almost 10,000 hours already. I plan to go past 1000 hours on the next oil change. As one example, we have a New Holland TS135A that recommends 600 and the last oil change I did at 926 hours and the results were excellent. Obviously, people can do as they wish with there own equipment but with my limited experiece, I have found by using oil analysis that most all our equipment is safe to go well beyond OEM recommendations. Most oil filters are of much higher quality too so they are a lot more efficient at catching contaminants. Diesel engines use much higher injection pressures which helps it burn a lot cleaner too. Oil itself is much higher quality, much more refined than when they recommended 100 hour change intervals. Then you'll know how long to leave that oil in. Get a Used Oil Analysis done, with TBN count. We tend to 'look at what work/temperatures' we are using machines in, but for a Diesel it is Annual for sure, unless a seldom used little ol' tractor. ![]() Posted 21:33 (#2392186 - in reply to #2392120) Subject: Re: How many hours on a oil change? Still do 100 hour changes here but we run everything 10,000 + hours Posted 21:33 (#2392181 - in reply to #2392120) Subject: Re: How many hours on a oil change? That is part of it, also the longer drains are for low sulfur fuel. Posted 21:31 (#2392179 - in reply to #2392153) Subject: RE: How many hours on a oil change? There was far less oil in the engines when 100 hour service was recommended. It seems to me that manufacturers have extended the service interval by increasing the total volume of oil in the engine. We use to always change engine oil at 100 hrs. Posted 21:12 (#2392120) Subject: How many hours on a oil change? How many hours on a oil change? Jump to page : 1 Now viewing page 1 ![]()
